RCF Enhances Discovery at the Cyprus Planetarium

Nicosia, Cyprus – The Cyprus Planetarium, situated in Tamassos near Nicosia, is the nation’s first and largest facility of its kind in the Eastern Mediterranean. Operational since June 2023, the venue offers an immersive blend of scientific education and entertainment through 4K dome projection, virtual reality exhibits, astronomical observation platforms, and interactive installations. To support the acoustic and safety requirements of such a multifunctional, technologically advanced venue, a comprehensive RCF audio solution was designed and deployed by SP Megasound Ltd, RCF’s official distributor in Cyprus.

The project required a scalable system capable of delivering high-definition audio across a complex architectural layout while supporting regulated voice-evacuation functions. RCF responded with a facility-wide design integrating entertainment-grade loudspeakers and EN 54-certified voice alarm components, ensuring clarity and intelligibility in both routine operations and emergency scenarios.
Installed systems include full-range loudspeakers, subwoofers, and column arrays tailored to the dome theatre and general-purpose areas. This ensures consistent tonal balance, high speech intelligibility, and extended frequency response for diverse program material, from educational narrations to live demonstrations.
In parallel, RCF’s EN 54-certified voice evacuation system provides centralized paging and emergency messaging throughout the building. The system’s key components include:

  • 2 × MX 3500 voice evacuation control units
  • 2 × IE 3008 input expansion units
  • 2 × BM 3804 emergency microphone consoles
  • 46 × PL 50EN ceiling-mounted loudspeakers
  • 19 × DP 5EN wall-mounted loudspeakers
  • 2 × WMF 33EN flush-mounted wall loudspeakers
  • 4 × MF 33EN surface-mounted wall loudspeakers

System integration accounts for the planetarium’s reflective dome geometry as well as its open-air circulation zones. By combining matched loudspeaker voicing with controlled dispersion and centralized system management, the installation maintains sonic precision without compromising on intelligibility or regulatory compliance.
This deployment reinforces the Cyprus Planetarium’s mission of scientific outreach. Through an adaptable, integrated architecture, RCF delivers an audio infrastructure that enhances visitor engagement and supports safety objectives in a unified platform.
